My family lineage stems from the German, Serbian, and Dutch Cultures. The many Serbian motifs symbolize happiness, joy, love, Christianity, and family union which were chosen to specifically reflect the values of my family and ancestry. Growing up in a family with a passion for nature, I included flowers and leaves adapted from common Dutch Delftware designs, illustrating my roots to the Netherlands and to nature. The layout of the symbols and motifs with a mixture of arches and rectangles creates a window like appearance, common in German artwork.
The colors are inspired by the rich reds, blues, greens and yellows that are popular among the three country’s art and are inspired by some of my personal favorite colors as well. The hand tied process is derived from Pirot Carpet making which originates in Serbia.
